P6 Brilliant Bridges!

Today P6 had a visitor for our topic. Our new topic is Civil Engineering and our visitor today was Miss Williamson’s sister who is a Civil engineer. She explained the job of a civil engineer, told us about her job in Grangemouth, and all about the refinery. She also let us try on her real PPE! She also told us about her new job working with bridges and set us a challenge to create a bridge to hold 4 Mars Bars. We learnt that cylinders and triangles were strong shapes so used this when building out bridges. The winning team had 3 strong cylinders and even held a dictionary! We are excited to begin our topic and find our more about engineering.

P6 Athletics Competition

Today P6 went to participate in an Athletics competition. When we arrived we got to all warm up with music in the background. That made us really excited. We all competed in at least one track event and one field event. Some of the events we did were relay running, speed bounce, chest push, javelin and obstacle race. We competed against 9 other schools, and came 5th overall. We enjoyed cheering each other on and the excitement of competing.

After the event we went to the beach. We loved being beside the water, exploring and finding different shells, writing in the sand and of course trying to skim stones! All children did the school proud, and represented themselves and the school brilliantly.

ECO Bird Feeders

Our P1-3 Eco group took part in the RSPB school’s Big Bird Watch a few weeks ago and while we were out we noticed that there were not many small birds in our playground. We made some bird feeders that we are going to hang in the playground so that the little birds will want to come into our playground to enjoy our tasty treats. We all worked really well together.

P4/5 Outdoor Learning

Primary 4/5 have been taking part in lots of outdoor learning. We have been playing games to practise our times tables and develop our teamwork skills, writing our spelling words in chalk, using natural materials to make shapes from a description of their properties and creating our own tessellating shape pictures.
